I’m In Techno-Love

Thanks for the great comments in the Israel post – I’ll be answering some of the questions in an upcoming post.

But, I had to take a quick minute to post my latest gadget love! A few days before my trip out here, I found out that a few of us were going to be getting new laptops.  I was thrilled to find out that I’d be getting a new Thinkpad T60p!

This is one AMAZING machine.  From the Intel Core Duo processor T2500, to the 512MB ATI graphics card, to the PCI express system bus, to the 2 (soon to be 4!) gigs of RAM, this puppy chews through just about anything you throw at it.  It’s also got neat useability features, like fingerprint logon, a BEAUTIFUL 15″, TFT 1600×1200 screen, a 100GIG hard drive, and built-in LAN, WiFi, Bluetooth and IrDA adapters.

Like I said, I’m in love…

IBM Thinkpad T60pHere’s a few snapshots. I’ve only got my Treo to take pics with, so ‘scuzie for the horrible quality. Maybe one day I’ll finally take the plunge and buy myself a nice Digital Elph from Canon… :)

KeyboardNotice the Hebrew letters on the keyboard – pretty neat, if I ever decide to learn Hebrew. hehe  But, anyway, its a neat thing to see how non-romanized languages use keyboards.  It’s a lot easier for a language like Hebrew (which only has 22 letters, compared to our 24) than it is for say, Chinese.  I’m still a bit at a loss for how they really make that work, but that’s a topic for another time.

Ooooooo drooollll!!!! Lucky bum hahaha. I’d travel to Isreal to get me one of those. Now if it was a tablet, I’d be in heaven. Nice machine brother

New toys are always a good thing… The sad part, though, is that laptop is more powerful than my desktop… What is the battery life on it?

  3. Andrew Milo says:

OOO…. Yeah, battery life is an unknown at this point. It says about 3.5 hours on the battery hoober, but I haven’t had a chance to test that out. The plane on the way back was SOOOO packed that there was no way I could take it out and watch anything.

But, they were playing Chronicles and Catch Me If You Can and Last Holiday, which, BTW was surprisingly good. Predictable, but really enjoyable. I watched it 3 times during the fights – twice with no sound, trying not to watch it, and once with the sound because I had finally seen enough scenes that I wondered what the heck they were saying…

    BTW – 18 hours as a pretzel wasn’t any fun. :)

Well, I should think most people don’t actually use Chinese keyboards; instead they would use software like NJStar, which is what I use. We type in the hanyu pinyin (that’s the romanised version of the characters) and options to choose the correct characters we want will pop up. It might seem slow on the onset, but expert users of such software can type up to 120 characters per minute!

Nice notebook btw! I like the fact that the keys pop up; most notebooks have flat keys and they’re so hard to press!

I’m jealous. Here I am with a laptop that no longer clicks!

Sharlet – cool info! Thanks – I’ll have to check into that further… It makes perfect sense, as I know that there are thousands of characters in use. Neat! :)

Jamie – wassup wid yer laptop? keyboard broken, or is it something more serious?
