Is this the Missing Link?
Moving everything to the cloud (G Apps) allows us to untether from the aged shackles of being tied to a single machine. It also allows us to take all of our information with us wherever we go, ala the Nexus One and other Android type devices.
But, what about when we return home? While having everything with me wherever I go is extremely convenient and computing power is now optional, I much prefer my overly large LCD monitor to the 3″ screen of my cell phone. Clearly the cloud is the long term answer – it won’t matter where I am and what device I’m using, everything is there with me.
But until the time of full deliverance, there is always that subset of information that is resident ONLY on the device I’m actually using. In a mobile world, that is often on my cellphone.
Maybe the REDFLY Mobile Dock (aka Moab) is the missing link. Now, all my data is securely in the cloud, it comes with me in my pocket wherever I go, and when I’m finally home I can sit comfortably at my desk in relative ergonomic comfort compared to the all too typical marathon Crackberry session where I inadvertently morph into the unholy offspring of Quasimodo and Mr. Magoo.
Maybe the Moab is a transitory thing. Maybe it is the start of something new that helps morph mobile, desktops, tablets and MID’s. If nothing else, its great to see someone understanding that our current pocket gadgets can learn a thing or two from the trusty laptop – going from mobile to dock with relative ease is a very nice feature indeed.

Safari is the Browser Speed King
Wait, what!?
You heard it right. Apparently the boys in Cupertino weren’t just spewing marketease. Safari clocks in at 3.5 times faster that Firefox, 6 times faster than IE 8 and an amazing 42 times faster than IE 7.
Take a look at the full results on CNET.
Download Safari for the PC here.

Change System-Wide Default Java Version on Mac OS X
Changing the Java version on OS X is extremely easy.
Simply navigate to /Applications/Utilities/Java/Java Preferences.App and launch the app. There you can set the version of Java to use for both Applets and Applications.
Keep in mind that running a java -version command from a terminal will only reflect the Java Preferences.App settings if you haven’t specified a JAVA_HOME in your .bashrc or .profile, etc.

Internet at 30,000 Feet
As I write this post, I’m travelling 450 mph somewhere over Nevada, I think…
While airplane internet service has been around for a while, I’ve never had the opportunity to use it, as its only on select flights. When they announced that it was available, I knew I had to give it a whirl. So far… Its the Internet, nothing more, nothing less.
Here’s a SpeedTest Result:

Not too bad for 30K feet! Pretty cool!

Fire Up the Yoshi Train – Nintendo Revenue Hits $18.5 Billion
Dang, that’s a lot of gold coins to collect!
Mario maker banks $2.83 billion in net income, $6 billion operating profit; 26 million Wiis, 31 million DSs, 16 million Wii Fits sold during last fiscal year.
What’s even more amazing is that given the worldwide shortage of Wii’s, they probably could have sold twice what they did. Amazing that an array of such underpowered gaming platforms have been so successful. Just goes to show you that the casual gamer is here to stay!
